What is Voice of the Wetlands?

After a lengthy discussion with Tab Benoit, the Grand County Blues Society, Headwaters Golf Course and the Inn at SilverCreek have decided to donate All profits from the Tab Benoit Golf Classic directly to a Relief Fund for the people of Louisiana through the Voice of the Wetlands

I got this letter written to the editor of our local paper from woman who is part of the Voice of the Wetlands, I can't write better then her so I thought I would share it with all.

From Melanie Melancon as follows...
Dear Editor:
Let me first begin by thanking the people of Colorado for their tremendous support for Louisiana and The Voice of the Wetlands organization before and after Hurricane Katrina.

On Sunday, August 28, 2005, as I was witnessing this powerful hurricane make its way to my beloved home, I posed a question to myself. "Do you
think Tuesday morning our voices will be heard?" America hears us now.

It is imperative they do not forget.

Our efforts must continue. They must continue because as the media frenzy dies down, Louisiana's coast and culture will continue to erode.

Does America truly understand the value Louisiana bears on its economy, its quality of life and its historical fabric? Twenty-seven percent of the nation's oil supply; thirty percent of the nation's seafood supply; Cajun and Creole cooking, language and traditions; Mardi Gras; the birthplace of world-renowned music; TabascoR, the Br'er Rabbit folktale; just to name a few. But most importantly, it is the people of Louisiana who give this illustrious state its charm. We have sustained our culture because we are loyal, because we have an unbendable spirit and because our
ancestors had to endure pain, separation and hard times to keep their identity. Louisiana is a cultural melting pot of displaced people living on displaced land.

And now, once again, we have been displaced. Not solely because of Hurricane Katrina, but because the federal government turned a deaf ear to our cries for help to restore America's wetlands. We were not a priority. We were not worth the price tag. Now we are paying the cost in shattered and lost lives. And we will have to bear the economic
repercussions.

Over the past two weeks, I've heard the media ask, "Why do people live in such a place?" Visit here and you will experience our reasons. Listen
to the music and you will hear our reasons. Eat our food and you will taste our reasons. It is why we are going to continue to fight to save our wetlands.

I used to joke that people need a passport to visit Louisiana. I'll quote New Orleans native Anne Rice, "And though we may seem the most exotic, the most atmospheric and, at times, the most downtrodden part of this land, we are still part of it. We are Americans. We are you."
The Voice of the Wetlands is coming to you. Join with us. Sing along with Tab Benoit. Let our voices be heard across the country.

Thank you, again, Colorado, for taking the VOW.
Sincerely,
Melanie Melancon
