I am the guy who is receiving Devon's guitar and I am looking forward to playing it immensely. I just wanted you to know who the guitar ended up with. I think what you do, in gifting instruments to  cancer kids like myself, is fantastic. As Andrew Mcmahon, a fellow  cancer survivor and musician, said, "swim for the music that saves you when you're not so sure you'll survive." Which is a sentiment applied  to all of us, really.

I grew up in Watkinsville, Georgia with my Dad, Mom and sister, Cait.  I was exposed to music at a young age, taking piano lessons, singing in choir and eventually learning guitar. Music has always been an important and relevant part of my life.  As a senior at Auburn University in April of 2007, I was diagnosed with stage IV Ewing's Sarcoma.  The primary tumor was in my lower back/pelvis region and had spread to my lungs.  My diagnosis came as a huge surprise to me and my family, because in the months prior I had completed multiple triathlons, a marathon, and participated in collegiate cycling races.  What followed was a year of chemo and radiation, which left no visible signs of disease in my body.  Then, at my six-month checkup scans, and a scant 4 weeks until my wedding, we found out that I had recurrent disease in my lungs.  Abby and I got married in September of 2008, and I have been in treatment since then. Throughout my treatment I have spent an inordinate amount of time learning and playing the guitar, and I feel blessed to have had that opportunity. It continues to be a way for me to synthesize my emotions, fears and hopes.  It has shaped my perspective on experience and love, what it means to create something worthwhile and be person of quality.  My daily endeavor is to "make a joyful noise unto the Lord." If anyone is interested in following my story a little more closely, they can go to my Caringbridge site by typing "samhaygood" into the appropriate box on caringbridge.com the photo is me playing SRV's Lenny, in which I make good use of the whammy. :)
